ASEAN Ministers Responsible for Information (AMRI) convened today for the Roundtable Discussion on Countering Fake News and Communicating the Right Information at Seda Vertis North in Quezon City.
The Discussion was led by Secretary Martin M. Andanar of the Presidential Communications Office of the Philippines, as this year’s Chair of the AMRI and attended by Information Ministers or their representatives from the other ASEAN Member States and by Deputy Secretary General Vongthep Arthakaivalvatee of the ASEAN Secretariat.
They shared and discussed the experiences of the ASEAN Member States in fake news and steps being taken by their Governments and Ministries to address it.
Mr. Oscar Franklin Tan from the Philippine Daily Inquirer was also invited to share practical measures on how to deal with and possibly counter fake news, most especially the ones that circulate online.

The summary of the discussion will be conveyed to the ASEAN Senior Officials Responsible for Information (SOMRI) and the Working Groups (WG) of the information sector for further deliberation.
